How do I go about increasing google page rank, I submitted my site on many directories but hasn’t done much to my PR.

well, I have my gtagamers site and it has a pr1, when I had it set up as a blog all i did was work on seo and techniclly I have no back links in google. (the pr is "valid" too)
So maybe seo work really helps

u can get gud keyword frm google.. go to google search .. search for google keywords

or https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

get the high mideam rank keyword.. bcs with high rank keyword its really hard to do improve. make sure u do not select more dan 15 keywords.

if u r using php try to use pretty url.. if u r an advance

abt pretty url search in google.

but first of all u need a gud domain.

PR is all about backlinks. No alternatives! Why are you interested in PR - please remember SERP has very little connection with PR. Better you try to improve your SERP.

Let me tell you my story. I have a website ... it's an article directory - X-PERT Lounge | Business Experts Articles | Professional Article Directory | Submit Your Article

Just after publishing this website, it got PR3 in just 5 months time, not only that some inner pages also got PR3. I really worked hard for first 2/3 months. Though I'm not a fan of PR, but still it made me happy to see the PR improvement.

OK ... what I did?

1. I tried to maintain high quality link distribution between the pages. So no page was leaving alone.
   
2. I submitted to social bookmarking sites, you may consider to submit only dofollow bookmarking site - it will give you quality dofollow backlinks. Here is an article 22 Top DoFollow Social Bookmarking Websites - Get Quality Backlinks you may find helpful.
   
3. I've member is some SEO forums and post often. I put it's url at my signature and it spreaded to all my posts. Here is another article on top SEO forums - Latest Updated top SEO Forums List.
   
4. I did some directory submission, but not much. But I submitted my rss feed to different feed directories. It won't give you any PR but will help your pages to index faster. Please remember not to do any aggressive directory submission - you may counted as spammer.
