It is really important for search engines to see a site being active, what I mean by active is adding new and unique content every once in a while.

I was wondering how often do you update the content on your site?

Depends on what kind of site I own. If its a dynamic one, content is added on a frequent manner. However, if it is a static site something like portfolio and all, I don't update them.

It's true that SE's crawl those sites faster which are updated regularly. Like CNN.com BBC.com etc.

not really, well till I release v.2 I'll be updating content
at least once in a week

EDIT:
I was wondering if updating actually affects your page ranks etc
because somehow I hear changing a lot might cause drop down or something like that
correct me if I'm wrong

You've heard it wrong. Frequent changes in the amount of backlinks can cause those problems. No problem with updating your website frequently. For an example, DIGG.com gets many submissions every second and has a PR 8.
