Default About Free domain names

Many host thrown in a free domain name with purchase of their hosting plan, but be careful.. to often these host will register the domain name under their name and not your name. So, if you ever decide to switch host, they many times won't give you the domain name. The domain name should always be registered under your name no matter what! This is the only way to know that you own the domain and your the actual owner.

Remember, don't be dumb! If the offer sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn't. There will always be a 'gotcha' to it. Always research and ask them any questions you have.

I know this is an old topic / post about, but I believe this is a very helpful post for beginners that don't know much about hosting services. Thanks for this advice and appreciate this. Thank you.

Yeah theres always a catch. Its just that the "size" of the catch that matters. The "smaller" the catch, the bigger the bargain. So, paid is always better.

I agree with you Garala. Good tips for the beginners or anybody who are new to register their domain name. Yeah many web-host providers cheat this way like registering the domain name in their name rather than the one who has registered. Appreciated the post. Good job! :smirk:

been there.
so to all thse who would get a full package,
it really pays to spend time reading the host's TOS.
if not stated in there, it should be fine.
but most host would state.

Reading a host's TOS is always a must. Most companies have hidden stuff you should know, and of course they wouldn't have that in their main page. If you don't mess with e-mails, chats, or similar, at least read their terms of service. Always! With no exception!

Some are also known for other tricks, like stealing the domain they registered for you when your site becomes successful and gets hits. That's even worse, but you can;t avoid it. If they don't say that any domain you'll register will be under your name, then use a normal registrar and pay for it. At least, you'll be sure. Don't risk it.

I register my own names and don't trust anyone else to do that as I have more control that way. Control Freak? Maybe...
