Having good exposure and traffic to your blog unfortunately brings the worst problem you'll face. SPAM!
Everyday, i have about 10 comments, some swear me(for no reason) and others say good things.
Unfortunately i delete the comments that swear me, but even the ones that say Oh, what a great article are links to porn sites etc..
It really gets on my nerves that thing but i have duscussed it with some other bloggers, whoa re far more experienced and better than me and trhey tell that's the problem exposure gives...
It gets really annoying and i can't stand but..that's bloggers' life they say..

Have you faced similar situations?

I know what you mean.

I've been recieving a lot of spam comments on my blog on the last few days. I also find some comments like "Great post" with a link to some site. Fortunately, the Askimet plugin has caught a lot of them (this is a Wordpress plugin). What I do: edit the comment and remove the link xD

Very good point you've made. I am fed up deleting those 500 links porn comments. Akismet catches most but not all. My blogs need some furnishing now. I am going to do it ;)

As a blogger, this will form part of your blogging life..
A common solution that many bloggers use, is to have a "verification" code or image together with your comment form. This will definelty reduced those spamming bots.
With Wordpress platform, there are many plugins there, just choose one.
For Blogger platforms, they already have this option available, but I think you just need to enable it in your options..

Yup, Wakish is right. There are many plugins you could use for WP to prevent it( if not stop it completely).

Another alternative is to keep all new comments in the Approval Queue.

I moderate all my comments before approving them, except those posted by returning visitors with at least one approved comment.

Yes, i do have my "tricks" to block the spammers but i really wanted to point that -actually- huge problem called spam.
Don'y know why, but with all this effort done by so many people and organization yet spam seems to be increasing day by day!
Unfortunately, that's life but i really wish this thing could be stopped. I mean there are so many ways to bring traffic to your site and get exposure, why to choose god damn the spamming method?
It's not worth more than 2 cent, most times doesn't bring you any advantages yet it's increasing day by day.

That's because of the "nature" of the internet and because not everyone has the same positive thought as you are trying to convey. Such things cannot be exterminated ;)
The best thing is to cope with it..

Wish i could prevent it but you are 100% correct mate..only coping with it is the most tempting and easy solution. Though coping with a problem doesn't solve it..so excuse me but i won't just stand and get used to it:D I always report spam IPs and websites :D
Everyone should "fight" that scam!

Coping up with SPAM and SCAM is one of the things that you "will" have to do over the internet. Simple because you hate that, SPAMMERS won't stop doing what they do. It's said here that " The work of a spider is the sting, but the work of a sage is to always help everyone, even if it is that spider." (It's actually in Hindi version, but since most of us won't understand, I translated it.)

But, I am with you in reporting all SCAM and SPAM. :D
