Talking xHTML and CSS resources

Here is a list of those websites which should help you in learning xHTML, CSS and taking them into practice. What I recommend is reading these sites and being an active part of a forum( Web-talks?? ;) ) so that if you encounter any problem, there are people to help you out.

Here we go :

xHTML Resources

W3Schools Online Web Tutorials
HTML and CSS Tutorials, References, and Articles | HTML Dog
TopXML : Learn XHTML Tutorial
jessey.net: XHTML Tutorial
Learn HTML and CSS: An Absolute Beginner's Guide [HTML & XHTML Tutorials]
HTML Reference (beta)

CSS Resources

SitePoint CSS Reference
W3Schools Online Web Tutorials
HTML and CSS Tutorials, References, and Articles | HTML Dog
css Zen Garden: The Beauty in CSS Design
A List Apart: A List Apart

I will be adding more to the list sooner than later.

I would say that the three best sites in the list are A List Apart, SitePoint, and CSS Zen Garden. The SitePoint references are fantastic, and a welcome addition to the online learning environment.

A List Apart and CSS Zen Garden aren't exactly tutorial sites, though...they're more for advancing basic skills than learning skills in the first place.

For anyone going the traditional "Learn it from a book" route, I would recommend any of the O'Reilly books, as well as most books published by Peach Pit Press/New Riders. Regardless of the subject, they tend to be very, very good.
